The score stand consists of three simple panels made from 1/8" plywood. Two panels are slotted to mate together and create a base. One panel is freely floating and can be positioned vertically or horizontally. The player has a good angle and height for viewing the score.
To create some stiction for the free panel to stay in place, a strip of rubbery shelf liner is glued to one slotted panel.
The three pieces can be finished with stain and varnish, or in the case shown, satin rub-on polyurethane varnish.
From the audience viewpoint, the stand looks very aesthetically pleasing with the player, and does not obstruct a view of their shakuhachi. It is also easy to transport to gigs, since it disassembles into three flat panels.
