An established shakuhachi maker from Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo, Suikyõ has been professionally crafting shakuhachi for the past 36 years. He served his apprenticeship as a maker with Tamai Chikusen. He is also a master shakuhachi player and regularly performs at major concerts all over Japan. He has studied performance with the same teacher, Ifuji Reizan since 1972, and won first prize at his shihan performance in Tokyo in 1984. Among his clients are students of the Junsuke Kawase school and the well-known performer Tanabe Shõzan.

Suikyõ is an unassuming man with a deep love of nature and the traditional arts of Japan. He often tests his new shakuhachi in the mountains around his home, where he grows persimmons, grapes, pears and plums. His professional name means 'Clear Mirror'.
